EC Barton & Company was represented by close friend of Phillip and Board Member Chris Gardner, CEO Steve Brimner, VP of Operations Kevin Pierce, Barton’s of Jonesboro Store Manager Ron Turpin, and Marketing Content Developer Christie Miller the check presentation ceremony held at the corporate headquarters. Kevin Pierce, Chris Gardner, and Christie Miller spoke on behalf of E.C. Barton & Company to the Build Up Team:
We are humbled and proud to be able to give back to our community and a project that supports the community that has been so good to us for over the last 133 years.
The Build Up for Phillip project is meaningful in that it will make a difference in the lives of many. While I personally didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Phillip Evans, it is my understanding he was a man of action. If something needed to be done, he was there to help, no matter what his skill level or knowledge of the project might be…nothing held him back.
He was a man committed to his family, his church family, his work family, and his community. He was a man who made the difference in the lives of many, and it is our pleasure to be able to play a very small part in his legacy as he continues to touch lives for many years to come. – Kevin Pierce
Well, I told her earlier (referring to Christie Miller), I said “No, I might not make it through but, uh, you hit it spot on whenever you described Phillip a few minutes ago about him being a man of action and Brooks and I kind of smiled at each other whenever you said that because there’s a lot of funny and also heart-warming stories that we could tell about that.
But, he loved this kind of thing. If he were here with us today, he would absolutely love this project. There would be one thing about it though that he would hate. I’ll just tell you what it is, the fact that we’ve actually named it after him. That’s the one thing that would bother him. Other than that, he would be in the middle this, spear-heading the effort, leading it, and wanting to be a part of it. He certainly would. So thank you all for everything you’ve done to try to make this a reality and for participating and getting behind it as an organization. You guys have inspired me as well and I really appreciate this so much. Thank you. – Chris Gardner
The Habitat for Humanity Build Up for Phillip project is a partnership that was inspired by the life of Phillip Evans. I also did not have the privilege of knowing Phillip personally but based on the accounts of those who knew him, he loved to build up the people and communities around him.
The project began as a single home to honor Phillip’s memory but as friends and family reached out to donors that opportunity grew into 9 homes and a community park.
Chris Gardner, who was a very close friend of Phillip’s brought the opportunity to Steve Brimner’s attention. Steve immediately put together a team including Jeff Hart, Kevin Pierce, Ron Turpin, and myself to discover the details and see how we could best help this wonderful project.
With that, E.C. Barton & Company is proud to offer the following items to the Habitat for Humanity Build Up for Phillip project:
Donation of shingles for all 9 homes
Opportunity to purchase additional materials needed at our cost
We would like to thank Chris Gardner for bringing this project to our attention, Steve Brimner for allowing us to move forward with joining this project, Habitat for Humanity for allowing us to be a part of this tremendous effort, and last but not least, the family of Phillip Evans for sharing their story so that this project might happen. – Christie Miller
On behalf of the 600 plus partners at E.C. Barton & Company, it is my privilege to present this check to Habitat for Humanity in support of the “Build Up for Phillip” project. – Kevin Pierce
