Network Technician

Job Title: Network TechnicianDepartment: Information Technology
Reports To:  Director of I.T.
General Description Provides support to end users on a variety of technical issues related to computer hardware and software.  Installs and maintains computer related equipment and cabling.  Assists Network Administrators with tasks related to maintaining critical network infrastructure.
Essential Job Functions include the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Assisting end users and first-tier support with technical problems
- Installing and maintaining computer hardware and software, server systems, peripheral devices, and telecommunications equipment in existing and new locations
- Documentation of company I.T. assets
- Documentation and reporting of issues
- Providing recommendations on I.T. needs
- Maintaining the stability and security of the network and attached endpoint devices


Job Duties must perform the following duties in order to achieve essential job functions, other duties may be assigned:
Provides support to end users with regards to hardware, software, and communications usage.
Installs and maintains hardware and software (including laptops, PCs, servers, peripherals, terminals, phones, and wiring). Coordinates installation/troubleshooting of IT hardware and software by third parties.
Monitors and maintains network stability and security.
Installation of devices and cabling to comply with company standards.
Travel as required.

Education and/or Experience                                             
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills                                                         
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills                                                
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Computer Skills                                                        
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of local area and wide area networks and end-user support. Have a basic understanding of common networking concepts (TCP/IP, VPN, wireless networks, telephone systems, cellular phones, etc.). Have general PC and printer maintenance knowledge. Be efficient with Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
